The chiseled faces of the Grand Tetons rise abruptly from the surrounding plains.

I left the beauty of the mountains and headed due east for 390 miles to Casper, Wyoming and a Motel 6 for the night. The heat was on now. There would be no relief. The next morning I stopped in Douglas, Wyoming and had breakfast with Anna's family at a local haunt called the Koop. I had shipped a set of tires here before I left thinking that I would be at about 8500 miles when I reached here. Not going to Alaska left me with plenty of rubber at near the 5000 mile mark here. I had them ship the new tires back home to me.

Still avoiding the interstate, I moved on across half of Nebraska and turned south to settle in to Philipsburg, Kansas for the night after a hot 520 miles. I ate in a bakery in down town that had no pie. A bakery with no pie? The heat had me jonesing for home. I started early the next morning and made my way across to I-35. It was a 600 plus mile day and I managed to snag a driving award from the Kansas HPD but I made it to home sweet home for the next night. I was exhausted and happy to be home. A full day of near 100 degree temperatures is debilitating.

The trip totaled just over 6000 miles. Alaska still beckons. I will answer that call another day. This altered tripped turn out to be a full adventure. The ST was stone dependable and made the trip with absolutely no attention from me other than checking the air in the tires occasionally.
