One of a couple bridges in Astoria Oregon.  We had some trouble finding a place to stay where we first stopped.  We had passed on to a couple towns before reaching Astoria and finding a motel for the night.  The day ended with 331 miles on the odometer.

This trip was to have Alaska as the ultimate destination.  The minor difficulty in finding a room this night triggered an explosion of the mounting internal fears Anna harbored of such unknowns and caused a meltdown within her psyche.  She had an anxiety attack about the unknowns of travel in the northern wilderness and being unsure of where we would stay each night. It became more than she could bear.  She wept for hours to finally "discover the courage to refuse". She realized her limitations and "at least fails(ed) while daring greatly".

I decided the best solution was to take her to Portland and put her on an airplane for home.  She would not hear to that.  She wanted to be with me and did not want me to continue on alone.  We decided the trip was more than we could do in the allotted time.  We would alter the trip to stay in the states and stop early everyday to ensure that we would find a campsite or a room without issue.

Anna still wrestled with her demons but was calmed by this compromise and decided to continue on the trip with me.  We headed on north into Washington state with our altered leisurely trip agenda.
