Miles and miles of verdant fields of fruits and vegetables were a welcome sight after crossing the searing Mojave Desert.  Leather clad motorcyclist suffered here with steady temperatures of 108 degrees.  A fuel stop at a remote oasis in Essex, between Needles and Barstow, netted the highest fuel prices for the trip with unleaded premium going for $4.49 a gallon.  I vowed I would never ride a motorcycle across this section of road again in July heat.

We pushed on in to Bakersfield, CA for the night and took a room.  A shower never felt so good and we got some laundry done in a hotel washer and dryer for guest.  462 miles was the tally for the day.
